FAQs

Scheduling & Availability

  • It depends on the time of year and our current schedule, but we do our best to get to you as quickly as possible — often within a day or two. During peak summer months, things can get busier, so calling sooner is always better. If your system is completely down and it's dangerously hot, let us know and we'll prioritize your call.

  • We understand that HVAC problems don't always happen during business hours. Give us a call or text at (205) 914-4889 and we'll do our best to accommodate urgent situations.

  • We serve homeowners throughout the Greater Birmingham, AL area including Springville, Hoover, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Irondale, Cahaba Heights, Chelsea, Trussville, Vestavia Hills, and surrounding communities.

Cost & Payment

  • We charge a diagnostic fee to come out and assess your system. That fee goes toward the cost of the repair if you choose to move forward. We'll always give you a clear price before we start any work — no surprises. We can work with you if the repair leads to a new system.

  • Yes. We've partnered with Wells Fargo to offer financing options on repairs and new system installations. This makes it easier to get your system fixed or replaced without paying everything upfront. Ask us about current promotions when you call.

  • Yes. If you're considering a new HVAC installation, we're happy to come out, assess your home, and give you a no-obligation quote. We offer free estimates and second opinions.

Repairs

  • No — and this is something we feel strongly about. We have a fix-first philosophy. If your system can be repaired and will continue to serve you well, that's what we'll recommend. A new system is a significant investment, and we'll only suggest one when it's genuinely the right call. We'll explain our reasoning so you can make an informed decision.

  • There's no single answer, but here are some general guidelines. Replacement may make more sense if your system is over 15 years old, the repair cost is close to half the price of a new system, you're dealing with repeated breakdowns, or your system uses R-22 refrigerant. Outside of those situations, repair is usually the better option. We'll walk you through the specifics for your system.

  • A few things to check first: make sure your thermostat is set to "cool" and the temperature is set below the current room temperature, check that your air filter isn't clogged (a dirty filter is one of the most common causes), and make sure the outdoor unit is running and isn't blocked by debris. If none of that helps, give us a call.

Installation

  • Our preferred brand and model is Trane XR14 for most systems. We work with high-quality, trusted brands that we've chosen specifically for their reliability and long-term performance. We're happy to discuss specific brand options during a consultation — the right choice depends on your home, your budget, and your priorities.

  • Most residential installations are completed in a single day. More complex jobs — like full ductwork replacement or multi-zone systems — may take longer. We'll give you a clear timeline before we start.

  • If your current system is older, the answer is likely yes. Newer equipment is significantly more energy efficient, and proper sizing and installation play a big role in performance. We have found that going with higher end, variable speed systems can take too long to see an ROI. We generally recommend single speed, SEER 14.3 systems. We’ll explain why and we'll help you understand what kind of savings to realistically expect.

Maintenance

  • We recommend when it needs it. Generally, once a year is sufficient. Keeping the outdoor unit clean and free from trees/bushes, changing your air filter regularly, and keeping your condensate pump clean will go a long way.

  • We inspect and clean key components, check refrigerant levels, test electrical connections, examine the condensate drain and test the overall system performance. We'll also let you know if we spot anything that could become a problem down the road.

  • Every one to three months, depending on the type of filter, whether you have pets, and how much your system runs. During the peak of summer when your AC is running constantly, check it monthly. We'll show you how to do it and recommend the right filter for your system during any service visit.

  • We recommend the basic, cheap air filters. Your AC is not the place to ‘clean’ your air. The only purpose of the air filter is to keep big debris like animal hair off your evaporator coils. The more expensive air filters are essentially just pre clogged for a typical AC. If you want air purification, you need a dedicated system for that.
